Labuan

Labuan is located 115km south of KK. It is made famous by its 4 wrecks that can offer excellent diving: Blue Water Wreck, Cement Wreck, American Wreck, and Australian Wreck. All wrecks are located within 40-50 minute boat ride. The best time for diving is between April - August.

Blue Water Wreck – A trawler from Philippine : MV Mabini Padre

  • Lies at 35 meter
  • Sank after caught fire on 13 November 1981
  • A 1654 tonner, measuring 262’ x 40’ x 20’

Cement Wreck - A Japanese freighter carrying cement for building Sultan of Brunei’s Palace, however the cargo was rejected due to poor quality

  • Lies at 31 meter
  • Sunk on 25 September 1980
  • A 2697 tonner, measuring 300’x 50’x 25’

American Wreck - USS Salute, belongs to US Navy and is a 808 tonne Admirable Class mine hunter

  • Lies at 30 meter
  • Measuring 185’x 33’x 16’
  • Sunk when hit Japanese mine on 8 June 1945 during WWII
  • The wreck broken in half and folded back on itself with over 100 men died in the incident

Australian Wreck - A combined passenger vessel and freighter ship

  • Lies at 33 meter
  • Identified as a Dutch Steamship SS De Klerk
  • Measures 300’x 39’x 20’
  • Salvaged by Japanese force during the occupation in 1942 and renamed Imabari Maru.
  • Sank on 16 September 1944 with the loss of 339 lives.
